Chinook

Black gums with dark mouth.

Spotted, blue-green, sometimes brassy-black back with silvery, sides.

V-Shaped tail, silver with spots. Becomes more squared with age.

  
Also known as King or Spring Salmon, Chinook are the largest, rarest and most highly sought-after salmon in B.C. by both anglers and high-end restaurants.

60 to 90 cm (20 to 40 inches)+

Weight

4.5 to 40 kg (10 to 90 lbs)+

Habitat

Total annual limit is 30. You must record your catch in ink on your licence.

Fishing

Ocean and Rivers from Alaska to California, and as far as parts of Asia. Widespread, and can be caught in both tidal and freshwater.

Cooking

Prized for its firm texture and rich flavour. Grilling and smoking are popular.
