White gums, white mouth and black tongue.

Bright silver/metallic blue, lightly spotted back.

Squared, silver tail with wide base. Upper tail usually lightly spotted.

Also known as the Blueback or Silver, Coho Salmon come in all sizes and range widely in weight up to 30 lbs.


50 to 60 cm (20 to 24 inches)+


3 to 11 kg (6 to 25 lbs+)


Ocean and rivers along both sides of the North Pacific. In B.C., they are widespread and can be caught in both tidal and freshwater.


Peak run August to September. Light tackle and flashy bait/lures near the surface are popular.


Medium dryness and fat. Poaching is popular.


All retained Coho must measure 30 cm+ (12 inches)
