Scallop

Fan-shaped, with flattened hinge.

Wavy, corrugated or “scalloped” edge formed by vertical ridges.

Colour varies from pinks to browns depending on species.

  
Usually found living in muddy seabeds, Scallops are most often collected commercially or by divers.

8 to 20 cm (3 to 8 inches) depending on species

Weight

Varied.

Habitat

Found worldwide. In B.C., they are found sporadically. Typically offshore, near small islands.

Fishing

Can be hand collected by divers.

Cooking

Pan-searing is popular.
