Sea Urchin

Ball-like, covered entirely in long spines.

Colours vary by species, but typically dark or dull.

  
Found in every ocean, Sea Urchins resemble small balloons covered in spikes.

3 to 10 cm (1 to 4 inches)

Varied.

Habitat

Found worldwide. In B.C., they are wide-ranging and often seen in tidal pools.

Fishing

Easily collected by hand, but their sharp spines may be toxic.

Cooking

Considered a delicacy, especially in Japan, Sea Urchin is eaten both raw and cooked.
